Om/About

– Born in 1953 above a cabinetmaker’s workshop with an appurtenant furniture shop where the assortment was predominantly based on the world-known Danish furniture architects which probably has influenced me a great deal subsequently.

– Qualified as a teacher in 1978; my main subject being woodwork.

– In the following years, various courses inspired me to experiment at home – primarily at the wood lathe – and eventually products more and more showed signs of niche production.

– Early on, wood turning as a hobby brought about a desire also to turn pipes which was on a somewhat experimental basis until 1992 where I took apprenticeship with Flemming Petersen.
With him I learned all the fundamental skills which then have been fine-tuned along the way; in recent years under skilled guidance by and sparring with Tom Eltang.

– For the pipes I use high quality blocks of Corsican, Greek or Moroccan Briar – generally mounted with stems of black ebonite or Cumberland, and supplemented with ivory, whale tooth, buffalo horn, artificial amber or bamboo.

– Contrary to most other pipe makers I work at the wood lathe, and it is continuously the hunt for the shape/ the optimum or more down to earth the nice-looking or beautiful which drives me in my work with wood, whether it is as a teacher or when I make pipes.

– I do it because I cannot help it and because I feel like so many others “that it might be really good what I’m producing right now, but my next work; it will be the finest in the whole world”. – so that is probably, after all, my motivation; that the optimum is just around the corner – waiting.
